Going on an exciting first date soon? Just the idea of going on a first date with someone new can be absolutely exhilarating, but it also can be a little nerve-wracking. Especially for a woman, planning out your perfect look – including make up – that will wow your date can seem like a daunting challenge. Here are some things to keep in mind as you get ready for your next date night on the town when it comes to your make up routine.

Avoid wearing red lipstick. Even if a red lip generally looks good on you, it’s a good idea to avoid it on the first date. While it can generally signal sexiness, sophistication, and class, for a first date it can actually be perceived as a little over the top. Also, unless you wear red lipstick as part of your regular make up routine, then you run the risk of selecting a shade that isn’t flattering on you – which can be a serious challenge – and then you won’t look your best when headed to your first date. Red lips also tend to come off as a bit severe, when demure and welcoming is the vibe you want to project.

And go easy on the blush. Blush is an excellent part of any woman’s make up routine, as it can shape your cheekbones and add more color to your face, but be careful. This particular make up item can be easy to go overboard on, and when you’re wearing too much of it, it’s really noticeable. Also, if you are going to be wearing blush on your first date, make sure you’re going with a soft color. You don’t want a brownish or really dark shade, as this is much easier to overdo, and will come off as too fashion-forward for first date fare.

Take care of your teeth! In general you should always practice good hygiene, but it’s even more important when you’re flashing a grin at your date. If you can do a whitening treatment before your date definitely does so, and if you opt to wear lipstick, make sure that you check it periodically, to make sure it hasn’t smudged onto your teeth! That’s definitely embarrassing, but you also don’t want to over a check and seem paranoid and vain.

Magnifying your lashes – When you want your date to look deep into your eyes, magnifying your lashes as much as possible is a good idea. While there are a lot of pieces of your make up routine that you need to go lighter on for a first date, mascara isn’t one of them. You want to opt for a high-quality mascara so there isn’t serious clumping, but putting on two to three coats of mascara will help to make your lashes noticeable and a touch dramatic, so that it draws the attention of your date – in a good way.

Keep these tips in mind as you get ready to rush around at home to prepare for your next first date, and it will help ensure you’re looking positively beautiful. Just remember to have fun and see where the night takes you!
